Hallasan Mountain rises up proudly from the center of Jeju Island and is perhaps the island’s most memorable landmarks. Also called Mt. Yeongjusan, meaning "mountain high enough to pull the galaxy," Hallasan Mountain is widely known by scientists for its geological value. Designated as a national park in 1970, there are 368 parasitic volcanoes called Oreums (peaks) around the main mountain.

Hallasan Mountain is famous for its vertical ecosystem of plants that results from the varying temperatures along the mountainside. Over 1,800 kinds of plants and 4,000 species of animals (3,300 species of insects) have been identified; to explore the mountain's treasures, simply follow one of the well-developed mountain hiking trails.

Hallasan Mountain is relatively easy to hike. With hiking courses less than 10 km in length, it is possible to go to the peak and back in one day. However, the constantly changing weather brings a lot of wind, so make sure that you are well prepared before you start climbing.

What You Can Expect

Hallasan is a volcano Mountain in the center of Jeju Island.

There are records of two different times eruption in 1002 and 1007.

The Peak is 1,950m, which is the highest Peak in South Korea.

Excluding the crater of the top of the mountain, the slope is a gentle volcano.

At the top of the mountain there is a crater with a diameter of about 500 meters. Crater has lake which is called Baekrokdam, depth of 5~10m and a circumference of about 2km.

There are about 360 parasitic volcanoes from the base of mountain to the shore. Also there are lava caves such as Manjanggul, Hyeopjae Cave, and coastal waterfalls such as Chunjiyeon and Cheonjeyeon. The valley is mainly located on the southern and northern slopes of the mountain, and is famous for the Tamna Valley, the Oedocheon Valley, and the Golmeori Valley.

Simply say, the whole Jeju island is one Hallasan.

There are also many plant changes from coast to summit.

Generally, the sub-tropical round leaves are formed by the forests up to 600m in height, temperate plants up to 1,500m, cold climate coniferous trees up to 1,700m, and alpine plants over 1,700m. In addition, various animals such as insects, spiders, amphibians, reptiles are distributed and are important for academic research.

In addition, the banks of Mt. Halla are warm and rainy, so they grow many crops including tangerines. The middle jaw is a grassland, grazing cattle, horses, and sheep. Hallasan was designated as a national park in 1970 due to its beautiful scenery and geographical features located on the island. These days, it has become a popular tourist attraction.
